03 · FAQ

Campaigns · common questions

01

Do guests need to have messaged us first?

For marketing campaigns, you send to guests who have opted in to marketing communications — typically at booking, check-in, or via a form. Viqal stores consent alongside the PMS profile, so the audience is always guests you're allowed to contact under WhatsApp Business Policy and GDPR.

02

How do WhatsApp message fees work for broadcasts?

Meta charges a conversation fee per recipient for marketing-category messages, and the rate depends on recipient country. Viqal shows the estimated cost in the composer before you schedule, so you know the spend upfront. You pay Meta directly; Viqal doesn't mark up the fee. Run your own numbers in the WhatsApp cost calculator.

03

Can guests opt out?

Yes. Every marketing message includes a one-tap opt-out. Opt-outs are honored across all future marketing campaigns immediately — transactional messages (check-in, room-ready) still reach the guest unless they also opt out of those. Consent status syncs to your PMS.

04

What deliverability should I expect vs email?

WhatsApp open rates average around 98% across the Viqal portfolio, compared to ~25% for hotel marketing email. Reply rates are typically 10–20× higher. Because WhatsApp is permission-based and rate-limited by Meta, deliverability stays consistent as long as your opt-in hygiene is clean.

05

How long does it take to go live?

Most properties run their first campaign within a week. Marketing templates are submitted to Meta and generally come back approved within minutes (occasionally up to 24–48 hours). If you don't want to set up your own Meta business account yet, you can launch on a Viqal-owned WhatsApp account that's ready on day one. PMS connects in a few hours; opt-in capture is typically already in place at booking or check-in.
